DigiTrak F5 Transmitters

DigiTrak F5® transmitters are available in five unique frequencies for maximum interference reduction. Two single-frequency transmitters and two dual-frequency transmitters are offered, in addition to two dual-frequency fluid pressure transmitters (FPT). F5 transmitters work with F5 systems only.

All DigiTrak F5 transmitters provide pitch, depth, and roll readings, with 0.1% pitch sensitivity and roll data transmitted using a 24-position clock. DigiTrak F5 transmitters are battery powered and enter sleep mode after 15 minutes of inactivity. The F5 locating system is also compatible with F Series™ transmitters and 12-kHz DucTrak™ transmitters.


F5 Fluid Pressure Transmitters

The long-range DigiTrak F5 Fluid Pressure Transmitter (Model FPT) provides downhole fluid pressure monitoring up to 250 psi (1725 kPa). The drilling fluid pressure is measured through sensor ports located on the front end cap on either side of the index slot. The FPT is available in two dual-frequency configurations: 19.2 kHz/12 kHz and 12 kHz/1.3 kHz. These transmitters have light-green tubes and incorporate a new mechanical design, in addition to the fluid pressure sensors. The new design has a knurled battery cap that is not flush with the battery compartment, as the older version was. With the cap installed, the overall length is still 15 in. (38.1 cm), but without the cap the length is 14.6 in. (37.08 cm). Thus, the FPT transmitters are compatible with existing drill housings that accommodate 15 in. (38.1 cm) DigiTrak transmitters. If using a tooling adapter, however, the new design will require a different adapter. Also, the housings must allow fluid to flow to the sensor ports for measurement of the drilling fluid pressure.

Housing Requirements
The FPT is compatible with existing drill housings that accommodate 15 in. (38.1 cm) DigiTrak transmitters. However, the FPT requires a path for fluid to flow from the annulus around the housing to the four sensor ports in the front end cap; slots in the housing will satisfy this requirement. If the slots are epoxied, then a 0.125 in. (3 mm) diameter hole must be installed to allow fluid pressure to be measured by the FPT. Compatible housings have at least one slot, but DCI recommends three slots equally spaced around the circumference of the housing for optimal signal emission and maximum battery life. The slots must be at least 1/16 or 0.0625 in. (1.6 mm) wide. Slot position and length requirements are shown below; all slot length measurements should be taken from the inside of the housing.


F5 Dual-Frequency Transmitters

The F5 dual-frequency transmitters (Model HDT) come in two configurations: 19.2 kHz/12 kHz and 12 kHz/1.3 kHz. These transmitters have light-green tubes and incorporate the new mechanical design like that used for the fluid pressure transmitters. The new design has a knurled battery cap that is not flush with the battery compartment, as the older version was. With the cap installed, the overall length is still 15 in.
